Local SIM cards or a National Geographic SIM Card |
We also recommend that our clients travel with a
SIM card
for each country they are visiting or a National Geographic
SIM Card that works in about 160 countries and uses a UK
number. With a local SIM Card or a National Geographic SIM
Card, in most countries you do NOT pay to receive calls or
to receive SMSs. This is a huge benefit. With most US
mobile world phone plans, you will pay $1-3 to receive
calls and SMSs. Please see the Cellular Abroad web site for
details.

An extra Unlocked Quad Band World Phone |
We recommend that our clients travel with
an extra Unlocked
Quad Band World Phone to put your local or National
Geographic SIM Card into. If you have a World Phone for
your everyday use, take that along if you need to have your
home mobile number with you, but put your new SIM card in
the extra Unlocked Quad Band World Phone that you will use
for international travel.
To buy the world phone and/or SIM cards and to figure out
what works best for you, we recommend studying the Cellular
Abroad web site and contacting them with to discuss your
needs.
NOTE: It is best to have a SIM card of the country you are
visiting so you have a local telephone number so locals can
call you, such as your guide, on a local telephone number.
In most cases and counties, it is not appropriate to ask
local guides, drivers or hotel concierge, etc. to call you
on a US mobile number. Plus, in most cases, you do not pay
to receive the call or SMS.
