Namibia with Luxury & Style (10 Days): Sample Itinerary Outline
ID #: DT-N-10-9-27-10-BESI
Days 1 - 2: Windhoek, NAMIBIA
Arrive in Windhoek, and transfer to your hotel, nestled in a quiet,
peaceful area close to the city center. Spend the remainder of the
day at leisure, perhaps unwinding in the hotel gardens or at its
swimming pool.
►Suggested hotel: Olive Grove Guest House
Day 3: Windhoek / Sossusvlei, NAMIBIA
Journey by air to Sossusvlei Desert Reserve. Your lodge — set in the
far northern part of the NamibRand Nature Reserve — is surrounded by
the endless dune fields of the Namib Desert, jagged mountains of the
escarpment and rocky outcrops at the base of the Nubib Mountains.
Many varied rock formations exist in the area, their different
textures and colors stretching as far as the eye can see. Further
south are distinctive, red sand dunes.
►Suggested hotel: Sossusvlei Desert Lodge
Day 4: Sossusvlei, NAMIBIA
The days here are dedicated to thrilling desert adventures, while
nights bring to life the romance and beauty of the African sky.
Explore the famous dunes of Sossusvlei, some of the highest in the
world; you may even choose to climb one. Explore the starkly
beautiful reserve during scenic nature drives, concentrating on
unique, desert-adapted plants and wildlife. You also may venture out
on the trails by all-terrain vehicle, led by an experienced guide.
Meanwhile, a dip in the lodge’s pool is the perfect remedy for the
afternoon heat. After dinner, a resident astronomer unlocks the
secrets of the southern skies at the lodge observatory. End your
night gazing at the vast, starry skies through the skylight
positioned directly above your plush bed; all the while, the sounds
of the desert surround you.
►Suggested hotel: Sossusvlei Desert Lodge
Day 5: Sossusvlei / Damaraland, NAMIBIA
Leaving Sossusvlei, soar over dramatic landscapes to your next
picturesque destination. Mowani Mountain Camp — its name taken from
the word m’wane, meaning “Place of God” — features thatched,
dome-shaped structures, which echo the shape of the granite boulders
that surround them; it is here that you may find the true meaning of
peace and tranquility. All around are geological formations,
archaeological sites and a unique variety of desert fauna and flora.
Notably, this is also the southernmost stomping ground for the rare
black rhino and desert elephant.
►Suggested hotel: Mowani Mountain Camp
Day 6: Damaraland, NAMIBIA
Set out on a nature drive in search of desert elephant (seasonal),
stopping for a picnic lunch. This afternoon, take an excursion to
Twyfelfontein, fascinating site of mysterious rock carvings (petroglyphs)
and paintings (pictograms).
Return to your camp to relax in the pool, enjoy the stunning scenery
from the deck of your tent or hike through the magnificent mountain
landscape.
►Suggested hotel: Mowani Mountain Camp
Day 7: Damaraland / Onguma Private Nature Reserve, NAMIBIA
This morning, transfer to the nearby airstrip for your flight to
Onguma, bordering Etosha National Park. Continue to your luxurious,
beguiling tented camp, hidden in the tranquil Onguma Private Game
Reserve. It amply lives up to its name: in the local Herero
language, Onguma translates to “the place you want to remember.”
Spend the afternoon at leisure in this peaceful setting, where tents
fringe a watering hole that is frequented by giraffe, wildebeest,
antelope and zebra. Other species that call the property home
include kudu, eland, oryx and hartebeest.
►Suggested hotel: Onguma Tented Camp
Day 8: Onguma Private Nature Reserve, NAMIBIA
Take guided walks and day and night game drives through the private
reserve, where lion, jackal, antelope and rare black rhino roam
free. Also, drive through neighboring Etosha National Park — site of
30 springs and watering holes — in search of regular residents:
lion, zebra, giraffe and over 300 species of bird.

Day 9: Onguma Private Nature Reserve/Windhoek, NAMIBIA
Today, transfer via light aircraft back to Windhoek, connecting to
your homebound flight.
