Many 'beach hotels' are not actually on the beach. Sometimes they have access to a private beach, or share a beach with another hotel. The beach hotels identified in our list are - if not giving direct access to a beach, at least within a short stroll of it. In addition, we class 'beach hotels' as those where you can arrive, dump the car, and never need to leave the beach or hotel during your entire stay - beach hotels are a 'state of mind' as much as descriptions of geography.
