Best US Restrooms: 2009 Award

Among the top 5 winners are the restrooms at New York’s Radio City Music Hall…a personal favorite!

NB:  In the US, we call our public toilets restrooms.

On 28 November 2008 (one day pre-birthday), I went to Radio City with very close NYC friends and a wonderful couple, Lorraine Aronowitz (we went to our proms together!) & Rob Danzig, to the annual Christmas show. The tickets were a great birthday gift from the top notch company we work with to get the best show tickets, Keith Prowse (KP).   Naturally, KP VIPs our clients to get them the best seats!

The show was fun, entertaining (love those Rockettes!) and ideal for kids…and the restrooms are an absolute MUST SEE…truly classic…Lorraine wisely insisted I visit the mensroom…she knew I’d love it. Lorraine just knows the “Must Sees” of in NYC. Designed in the early 1930’s, the washroom features classic tile work, art deco furnishings and unique materials, including cork- covered walls.

Notable are a Cubist mural (for the men) owned by the Museum of Modern Art (www.moma.org) and a 14-scene mural on the history of cosmetics (for the women).  Also, note the terrazzo floors in the men’s room and a silk damask of flowers in the women’s powder room.  Don’t ask how I know about the powder room :-)

This year was the 8th annual “America’s Best Restroom” contest presented by Cincinnati-based Cintas Corporation (Nasdaq: CTAS), a leading provider of restroom hygiene products and services. http://www.bestrestroom.com/news_winner2009.html
